Graduate Student of Color Summer Research Award

Funded by the Student Recruitment & Retention Center (SRRC)'s Graduate Academic Achievement & Advocacy Program

We are pleased to announce summer research awards for hxstorically underrepresented graduate students of color at UC Davis. 

We invite applications for research projects that examine questions of marginalization, promote social, racial and/or environmental justice, or engage community-based public scholarship.

  • Funding may be used for research-related expenses such as: travel, materials, and/or living expenses for research-based writing.
  • Please note that if you are already receiving summer aid, your financial aid package may be affected by this award. We will communicate with recipients if this is the case.

Applications due to Sunday, May 7, 2023 by 11:59pm PST

Timeline

  • Application deadline: Sunday, May 19, 2023 by 11:59pm PST (extended)
  • Award Announcement: by Friday May 26th, subject to change

    • Recipients will have approximately one week to accept or decline the award

  • Funding Disbursed: by July 3, 2023, subject to change
  • Award amount: $250-600

Who can Apply?

  • UC Davis graduate students completing their terminal degrees (MA, MS, PhD and MFA) at any stage in their graduate studies
  • Must graduate no earlier than December 2023

How to Apply

Submit the following along with your Submittable application below:

  • Budget (1 page)
  • CV (no more than 2 pages)
  • Proposal (750 word max)

Proposals should address the following: 

  1. How does your research and/or academic goals advance the mission of the SRRC (empowering or supporting hxstorically underrepresented people/communities and advancing our collective mission for community empowerment and social justice)? 
  2. In what ways will this grant help you achieve your goals? 
  3. How will this grant support your retention?

Review and Selection Process

Proposals will be reviewed by the selection committee, and evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Significance of research project to issues of social justice & empowerment of hxstorically marginalized communities
  2. Feasibility and appropriateness of proposed plan of summer research or writing
  3. Discussion of how the summer award will support students' retention and success
  4. Potential to contribute to racial and social justice.
